Texas Judge Jails Honor Roll Student
An honor student at a Texas high school was jailed for missing too many classes.
Diane Tran is an honor student who works a full time and a part time job to support two siblings. She spent an evening in jail because the judge thought that was the best thing for her and fined her $1000.
According to a Texas law, "if a student has ten or more unexcused absences within a six month period, the district may refer the student to a juvenile court."
But her classmate Devin Hill says, "She goes from job to job from school, and stays up until seven in the morning doing her homework."
Tran is currently taking AP Spanish, college level algebra and dual credit English and history courses.
Her story has gone viral and people have raised over $28,000 for her education.
