Top Five Box Office Movies of the Weekend |
They are the Box office champs no more. The Avengers have been overtaken for the first time since it's release. Coming in at Number five is the horror pick Chernobyl Diaries which grossed $8 million dollars. The story is about six tourists who are taken to the site of the Chernobyl nuclear reactor meltdown and quickly realize they are not alone. Number Four this week is the raunchy yet funny follow up to Bruno and Borat. The Dictator made $9.6 million over the Memorial Day long weekend. The movie loosely based off the board game of the same name came in at number three. Battleship starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard as well as hotties Rihanna and Brooklyn Decker made $10.8 million. For the first time in four weeks the Avengers were dropped to second place in the office. The super hero movie brought in a very respectable $37 million over the weekend bringing the global gross to $1.3 billion which is just shy of the $1.33 that the final Harry Potter film brought in. It's been over ten years and a lot of bad reviews later but apparently the people wanted to see it. Men in Black III showed that it is still a marquee franchise. Probably helping out is the fact that this is Will Smith's first film in about four years. MIB III brought in $55 million. The movie stars Smith who has to go through time to meet a young Agent K played by Josh Brolin and naturally the elder Agent K played by Tommy Lee Jones. Will it continue atop the list next week, will the Avengers take it's place back on top or will a new movie take over? Coming out this week is Piranha 3DD, Battlefield America and Snow White and the Huntsman. Article Added: 2012-05-28 |
