First Time Ever at the Miss Universe Canada


Tonight will mark history.

It might be history that you are unaware of, but history nonetheless. Tonight in Toronto is the Miss Universe Canada pageant and for the first time ever there will be a transgender contestant.

It's been four years since Vancouver's Jelena Talackova had gender reassignment surgery. Earlier in the year she was kicked out of a pageant because she revealed that she was transgender.

Tonight you will see 62 contestants, 15 judges and a live audience.

The Miss Universe Canada crown will be handed out on Saturday.
